Observation & Testing

Interview & Initial Assessment

Occupational therapy (OT)

Orientation Period

This is a primary and well structured process of analysis and assessment concerning trainee’s level of intelligence and his academic capabilities. Trainee’s concept of adaptability, behaviour patterns and the traits of his personality are carefully observed by a team of experts. One important area that this team covers is the interview and case history of the client. By interviewing the client and his parents the team organises the given information into a proper format, at the end the team comes to a conclusion and designs a customized programme.

This is a secondary phase of assessment, here the trainee is placed under detailed observation for a period of 15 days in order to observe the clients all personality aspects, educational performance, potential, emotional strength as well as home environment, then a report a written and the parents/caretakers are called in for discussion if required KVTC provides a parental counselling session. In this session we call the parents for open discussion were the team gives the clear picture of the child which helps to clear any over or less expectations by the parents towards their child. After developing a mutual understanding the trainee is taken into orientation period.

In this period, we familiarize the child with the environment of the centre, which will orient the child with the teachers and school mates.

In the orientation stage different tests are conducted in the following areas:-

1. Functional academics.
2. Self care.
3. Self direction.
4. Health and safety.
5. Communication.
6. Socialization.
7. Community use.
8. Leisure and work.
9. Home living.

After analysing these 9 Personality Development Areas we design an INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM (IEP). Through these IEPs, a curriculum is implemented for each trainee.

In occupational therapy, our occupational therapist makes use of the activities of daily living in preparation of a program for the trainee. This program is individually designed for each trainee and is based on his/her adequate knowledge of personality, habits, and ability.

The OT department covers a wide range of activities. Here, simple manual or intellectual task on material with which the trainee is familiar, can be used for initial estimates of functioning. It also covers the area of improving work skills, to acquire new skills and to reduce social isolation. Activities of this department can be shared by regular people also to improve the process of learning.
